Yum Brands acquired tech firm Dragontail Systems, based in Perth, Australia, for $72.6 million in 2021, with plans to scale its artificial intelligence and delivery technology globally. Even before that acquisition, Dragontail was already in use in nearly 1, 500 Pizza Hut restaurants. Dragontail, a platform that automates kitchen flow and driver dispatch processes, was launched in over 1, 000 additional restaurants in Q1. Pizza Hut's domestic system led the charge by doubling the number of stores that are equipped with the technology. Around 400 KFC stores in Canada launched the platform, too. I am guessing that in todays labor market, there are not a shit load of people lining up to apply to work the 2am shift at Pizza Hut, so it will probably fall on the existing employees. Also, any job which interacts with the public overnight is getting a much higher percentage of difficult to deal with customers.

I've never worked fast food or anything of that nature and even I know that you're being way too kind to fast food companies.
Can you image being told your hours of operations was increasing from 9 PM to midnight or 2 AM? I know not everyone is going to have to change their shift, but will Pizza Hut hire new people to accommodate the new closing time or just move shifts around?

I used to work at a pizza place in my early college years. Late night shifts were the worst because of the college bar that was nearby. Drunk students were constantly a pain in the ass to deal with.

Most locations will just move shifts around.
Hell, they won't even change some of the shifts around. If you're working <40 hours/week they'll probably keep your shift the same but expect you to stay later if they need you.

Clean-up is undoubtedly going to take an extra hour or so after that. It's possible that employees won't be leaving the restaurant until 3:30 - 4:00 am.
There is always, ALWAYS, going to be some poor sod who has to work the overnight shift then come in the next morning at 10:00 am. Pizza Hut is going to have a slew of employees getting less than 5 hours of sleep a day.
Outside of college towns, the midnight crowd doesn't bring in any real business. Forcing everyone to stay late just to appease the 1:59 assholes of the world is horseshit.

There's a lot of neighborhoods I wouldn't feel comfortable delivering to between the hours of 11pm-2am if I were given a guaranteed $20 per delivery.

I wonder what that dragontail AI software does, the article makes it sounds like it really helps them with efficiency but I am just wondering what really it could be doing other than noticing some employees are slower than others and ranking everyone on everything
